Police Beat

Newman Police

The Newman Police Department received 84 calls for service and reported 137 officer-initiated calls for a total of 221 incidents from May 19 to May 25. There were 40 cases opened and 20 arrests were reported. The department issued 21 traffic citations, five criminal citations, seven parking citations and two animal citations. Six vehicles were towed.

Auto Burglary

A resident reported tools were stolen out of a 2019 Chevy Silverado sometime overnight on May 23 in the 500 block of Tivoli Drive. The tools included two tile cutters, a board cutter and a tool box with miscellaneous tools. The estimated loss was $1,750, according to the police department. The case was closed pending suspect information.

Attempted Auto Burglary

A resident in the 1200 block of Amy Drive reported that someone tried to break into his work truck on May 23. The resident said the suspect tried to pry open the cover on the 2021 Ford F250. The attempt was unsuccessful but did cause about $800 in damage. The case was closed pending suspect information.

Auto Burglary

A paint sprayer and a welder were stolen from a truck parked in the 400 block of Parliament way on May 23. The items were stored in the bed of the truck and were valued at $1,400. The case was closed for lack of leads.

Arrests

Daniel Morales, 40, of Newman was arrested on May 19 for possession of a controlled substance and a warrant.

Alessandro Diaz Villanueva, 22, of Newman was arrested on May 19 for disorderly conduct.

Timothy Armond, 25, of Gustine was arrested on May 19 for driving on a suspended license and using false tags.

Juan Lopez, 43, of Newman was arrested on May 21 for driving on a suspended license.

Enrique Leon Lopez, 33, of Patterson was arrested on May 22 for DUI, DUI of .08 or more and being an unlicensed driver.

Daniel Bar, 27, of Newman was arrested on May 22 for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jose Alvarado Martinez, 38, of Newman was arrested on May 22 for driving on a suspended license.

Sancho Guzman, 46, of Tracy was arrested on May 24 for driving on a suspended license.

Rigoberto Mendoza Barajas, 39, of Gustine was arrested on May 24 for DUI and DUI of .08 or more.

Felipe Armenta, 35, of Patterson was arrested on May 25 for violation of a court order and a warrant.

GUSTINE Police

Brandishing a Weapon

An 11-year-old student from Our Lady of Miracles Catholic School reported a male shot at him with an Air Soft rifle at 7:47 a.m. on May 19. The boy was not injured, according to the police department. The suspect was driving a black Toyota car that was last seen on Highway 33, headed towards Santa Nella. The suspect was not located.

Fireworks

Fireworks were reported twice on May 20. Once around 6 p.m. on West Avenue and again shortly before 9 p.m. near West Avenue and Lucerne Avenue.

Gunfire

The police department took two reports of gunfire early on May 21. The first was at 2:16 a.m. and the caller stated two shots were heard at Gustine Garden Apartments on Wallis Avenue. The second report came in at 2:39 a.m. The caller stated eight to nine shots were heard in the back alley of 2nd Street.

Burglary

A resident on Via Fraga reported a burglary around 8 p.m. on May 21. The caller stated all the windows and cupboards were open. Officers investigated but no suspect was located.

Auto burglary

A resident on 2nd Avenue reported an auto burglary around 4:30 a.m. on May 23. The caller stated chains had been cut off his truck rack and all his tools were stolen. The estimated loss was $1,100.

Burglary

The police department investigated a possible burglary on May 24. The caller stated he returned to his home on Via Del Pettoruto shortly before 1 p.m. and found the garage door had been damaged, possibly by someone trying to gain access to the house.

Arrests

Jose Arenas Morales, 26, was arrested on May 20 in the area of Highway 33 and Meredith for DUI and DUI of .08 or more.

Marc Cameron, 42, was arrested on May 25 in the area of Hunt and Sullivan roads for driving on a suspended license.
